About Mirman
Mirman School opened its doors to educate highly gifted children in 1962. Motivated by a deep love and concern for these children, Dr. and Mrs. Norman J. Mirman began the school with nine pioneering students in their West Los Angeles home. Today, with a newly expanded campus serving all dimensions of childhood, Mirman School is a thriving and diverse community home to 330 students. Mirman continues to distinguish itself as one of the few schools in the country devoted to the education of highly gifted children, particularly serving all dimensions of childhood — academic, artistic, kinesthetic, and more.
Mirman’s Mission
We cultivate the boundless potential of highly gifted children, nurture their passions and talents, and develop a diverse community of creative and constructive lifelong learners.
Statement of Inclusivity
We are committed to building a connected community that embraces multiple perspectives and cultural competency to strengthen gifted education and growth in the whole child. At Mirman, we strive to integrate inclusivity in our curriculum, school culture, and institutional identity. We honor and support a community built on diversity of thought, experiences, and identities to best engage our students in the academic, sociocultural, and complex world in which we learn and live.
Educational Philosophy
Mirman School embraces, supports and values the many facets and faces of giftedness as we nurture our students’ abilities to reach their highest potential. As an educational institution, we are committed to personalizing our curriculum through depth and complexity, while celebrating the intellectual, creative, and kinesthetic dimensions of childhood and adolescence. We foster a culture of inclusivity and connectivity in which our students’ academic, co-curricular, and socio-emotional experiences and needs are supported. Mirman faculty and staff model empathy and respect in our communal effort to enhance whole-child learning. Our goal is to inspire lifelong curiosity and learning, the continuous pursuit of excellence, and ethical leadership amongst our students and graduates.
Environment
Our 6 acre campus is home to both Lower and Upper Schools, beautiful outdoor community spaces including regulation-size athletic fields and basketball courts, handball and Ga-Ga courts, innovative play yards, and office and classroom spaces. A faculty lounge creates a warm convivial space for gathering, collaborating, and all the coffee one could want. Recycling initiatives and fast-fill water stations throughout campus, in addition to energy efficient office spaces, combine to create a greener community.
Our Community
Mirman is made up of students and their families, a dedicated and passionate Parent Service League, and a Board of Trustees made up of community leaders. In the Lower School, lead teachers are supported by part-time Assistant Teachers, while Upper School teachers specialize in disciplines such as English, science, Latin, Mandarin, History, etc. Dynamic specialists in science, STEM, technology, math, art, music, choir, theatre and more round out the fabric of our faculty. Mirman is also home to a collegial and collaborative group of administrators who work to facilitate the ideal teaching and learning environment.
