Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine (WSU BSOM) and Premier Health are seeking an academically minded physician leader to serve as Assistant Dean for Community Graduate Medical Education: Assistant Designated Institutional Official (ADIO) - Atrium Medical Center.
Working under authority delegated by the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine (WSU BSOM) Designated Institutional Official (DIO), the Assistant Dean will help establish Atrium Medical Center as a high-quality community clinical learning environment and build the infrastructure necessary to launch and sustain residency and fellowship programs sponsored by WSU BSOM.
The position includes 0.50 FTE protected administrative time dedicated to GME leadership, with the opportunity to devote the remaining effort to clinical practice in your specialty. Clinical work is encouraged and designed to complement, not diminish, protected educational leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Community GME Strategy and Program Development: Lead the strategic growth of Graduate Medical Education by developing a multiyear expansion plan and feasibility assessments for Atrium Medical Center and the Premier Health Southern Region, creating comprehensive business plans and realistic implementation timelines for new programs while identifying opportunities to extend existing Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and Premier Health residencies into community sites.
- Assistant DIO and Accreditation Leadership: As the DIO’s formally designated local representative for GME matters at Atrium Medical Center, this role exercises delegated authority to support institutional and program compliance with all ACGME and WSU BSOM policies, assess the readiness of proposed new programs, facilitate critical accreditation data submissions and reviews, and actively participate in the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) while representing the DIO when needed.
- Atrium GME Governance and Institutional Integration: Establish and chair the Atrium Medical Center GME Development Council to advise the WSU BSOM GMEC, streamline decision-making pathways across partner institutions, provide regular progress reports to key stakeholders, and integrate graduate medical education priorities into broader hospital and system planning for patient care, operations, workforce development, and community health.
- Clinical Learning Environment, Quality, and Patient Safety: Foster a respectful, inclusive, and educationally rigorous clinical learning environment by integrating residents and faculty into patient-safety and quality-improvement teams, partnering with clinical leaders to ensure appropriate supervision, workload balance, and well-being resources, monitoring surveys and safety reports to drive corrective actions, and serving as a trusted, accessible resource that safeguards due process, educational integrity, and patient care.
- Program Director and Faculty Development: Recruit, mentor, support, and evaluate founding and established GME leadership while developing structured faculty development in ACGME requirements, building a community faculty pipeline to recognize teaching contributions, and promoting succession planning, leadership development, and educational innovation in community-based medical education.
- Academic Partnerships, Workforce, and the UME-GME Continuum: Serving as the primary GME liaison among Atrium Medical Center, Premier Health, and WSU BSOM, this role coordinates with undergraduate medical education leaders to develop student rotations and longitudinal experiences, while collaborating with community practices, public health agencies, and regional partners to build comprehensive pathways connecting medical students to advanced training, long-term physician recruitment, and educational programs that advance health equity, population health, and regional workforce needs.
- Finance Operations, Data, and Continuous Improvement: To support program development and continuous quality improvement, this role will collaborate with finance and administration to manage budgets and maximize funding, secure necessary resources before program launch, and develop a comprehensive Atrium GME data dashboard to monitor performance, guide educational enhancements, oversee programs needing support, and thoughtfully adopt emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.

Job Requirements
Education:
- MD, DO, or MBBS degree
- Board Certification
- Experience:
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in graduate medical education
o Prior service as program director, associate program director, DIO, Assistant/Associate DIO, GMEC leader, department education vice chair, or comparable GME leader
Preferred Qualifications:
o Experience creating, launching, or substantially expanding a residency or fellowship program.
o Experience with community based or regional GME and development of clinical learning environments across multiple sites.
o Experience preparing ACGME applications, responding to citations, conducting Special Reviews, or preparing for institutional and program accreditation reviews.
o Familiarity with Medicare GME reimbursement, program budgeting, financial feasibility analysis, faculty development, educational scholarship, population health, or workforce development
